Buckwheat is a plant cultivated for its grain like seeds and as a cover crop.Buckwheat comes from the Fagopyrum esculentum plant, which is related to rhubarb and sorre. It is also call Ancicent grain because it has been cultivated for more than 8000-9000 years ago. In Asia, buckwheat comes from the related Fagopyrum tataricum plant.In Nepal buckwheat farming is flourishing in Manang district.People attracted towards buckwheat because other grains like millet, paddy,maize should not be cultivated in a large volume in the district.Now a days every local area of Manang District planted buckwheat.

What is maize ?

Maize is a tall plant which produces long substance covered with yellow seeds called corn. It is a food grain first Cultivated by indigenous peoples in southern Mexico about 10,000 years ago. Maize is consumed directly by humans.It is used for corn ethanol, animal feed and other maize products, such as corn starch and corn syrup.Maize has become a staple food in many parts of the world.

Where it grows ?

Maize is grown at latitudes varying from the equator to slightly above 50 degrees north and south,from sea level to over 3000 meters elevation,in cool and hot climates,and with growing cycles ranging from 3 to 13 months.It is widely produced in United States, Canada, and Australia.
